There are certain medications that affect your heart rate, for  example, the type of drugs known as beta blockers (very frequently prescribed for cases of hypertension or chest pain) lower your heart rate.

There are other medications that affect your heart rate as well, such as tranquilizers, drugs for diets and thyroid disorders, bronchodilators, etc.. Therefore, if you are taking any medications, consult your doctor prior to starting your exercise program.
