4 advantages of circuit training

Many people who go to the gym make regular use of circuit training.

In circuit training, you have to go through 8 to 10 exercises consecutively to complete a round or circuit.

This type of training is good if you’re a beginner. But you should also know you can stick with this method for staying in shape even if you’ve been training for a few months.

While it is true that circuit training will not give you large muscles, you won’t lose muscle mass either.

Some of the benefits of circuit training include:

1- A whole body workout, since the exercises require you to use all your muscles.

2- A wide variety of exercises to keep things interesting.

3- It’s an easy way of working out if you want cardiovascular benefits combined with muscle strength and endurance.

4- It helps to tone and define your body.

With the Sportize.me method, we help you achieve your goals quickly, safely and effectively.

I do mostly bodyweight exercises right now since I dont have access to a gym due to finances. I am doing various bodyweight circuit routines based on samples from NASM and a socail networking source

The only disadvantage to always only doing circuit training is lack of max strength and max power output but if you do the circuit correctly you could also work on these aspects but most people do not do this type of circuit correctly

Circuits are great; they can be done by all fitness levels and all ages and are great for developing strength and endurance along with keeping the person/athlete interested as you can have varied times along with a wide variety of exercises.

Short and sweet and keeps your interest up. I think alot of women used to think of circuit training as a man’s thing but then all of these 30-minute places cropped up like Curves that really are a circuit I have been told. So the main advantage, really to men as well as women, is that it only takes 30 minutes to have a cardio workout and cover all the major muscle groups. Also it is a little easier to keep up with, not only because of the music tie in but also because it does not demand alot of time. It has alot of variety whereas most workouts don’t. It seems to be predicated on the idea of slow and steady wins the race.

I’ve been circuit training for the past decade and realized that I have maintained my overall body fat mass index and have improved my fitness levels every year since I began training. But the main benefit is I have grown younger. I eat well, sleep well, and live well. Circuit training has given me a better energy output that has greatly reduced the need for “money” in my life. But don’t forget, it’s not for everyone and the way you approach it and do it matters a lot…”Vamanos a Madrilenos”

Good for weight loss, enhancing muscular and cardiovascular endurance I have a least 2 different types of circuit training involving the whole body using bodyweight exercises Effective as well as being timesavers

I agree with the advantages but don’t necessarily think you have to have 8-10 exercises to create a circuit. I see it as a very broad term essentially meaning you move through any range of exercises, one set at a time before repeating from the start.

I’d be interested to know what other people think about this.

The way it’s discussed in the article, sounds like it’s aimed at high energy expenditure training as opposed to max strength gains but I see no reason why you couldn’t do a max strength/power session with 2-4 exercises (each with different prime movements), long rests, heavy weight and low reps.

Would you not still call that a circuit? If not, what would you call it…apart from a waste of time :-) ?

Circuit training can be an excellent way of working out when done properly. Also, when incorporated into concurrent training routines they are more effective. However, studies show that performing interval aerobics and weight-training on separate days on an alternating basis does have advantages. Nevertheless, as Kirk mentioned, they are still effective as well as time savers. For a complete fitness guide to cross-training and concurrent circuit training, please visit my website.

Another advantage to effective circuit training for me personally is the cardiovascular benefits. Let’s just say I’m not a huge fan of running or cardio in general, so by setting up a circuit with a variety of exercises (resistance/heart rate boosters) and time intervals a person can get a great cardio workout as well.

I heard of circuit training before but only really started to look into it around two weeks ago. It has so many different uses that I found where astonishing. A lot of people like you Sheila and me thought it to be for men. I actually thought it was for pumping up to create muscle mass only but now it is even used in replacement of Cardio. I found that article here and it made a lot of sense. http://www.diet.livehowto.com/?p=118
