Sports and hair removal

Depilation (hair removal) is very trendy these days, and not just for aesthetic reasons. Did you know that being hair-free can help you with your sports performance?

It is well known that being hairless can help you gain a few tenths of a second in swimming.

Cyclists also depilate, but for them, it isn’t to be more aerodynamic, it’s for hygiene.

Being hair-free also provides more comfort in your workout gear when doing exercises.

Another advantage of being hair free is that it makes therapeutic or relaxation massage more effective.

The best known depilation methods are shaving, depilatory creams or gels, tweezing, waxing, and lasering.

The most advanced of these is laser hair removal. It’s also the most permanent in terms of duration and results.

The best time for laser hair removal is when summer is over and our skin returns to its normal color, so as to reduce the risk of skin injury.

Laser hair removal is suitable for men as well as women.

With regard to hair type and areas that are most frequently treated, men generally need a couple more sessions than women, and their problem areas are usually the back, back of neck and chin.

On the day you have your laser hair removal session, be careful when it’s time to do your Sportize.me workout, especially the cardiovascular portion of it, because lasering introduces heat into the skin and you have to give your body time to cool down. You can switch your workout day in the schedule designed by Sportize.me. Also, after your laser hair removal session be sure to avoid hot showers or saunas and apply a cooling aloe vera gel or cream without menthol.

Later on, we’ll discuss the different types of laser hair removal on the market and other photodepilation systems.

As a cyclist I do understand the trend, but I tend to conclude that the difference in performance will only be noticeable at a professional level: the average bear wont notice an empirical performance difference, no matter how faster it makes you feel.

The true benefit of shaving is, in my opinion, noticed when you crash… you can’t be stitched without being shaved first. Furthermore, hair slow down healing, promotes infection ( and makes picking at the scabs much more painful! ), and apparently it also increases the severity of an injury: the more hair you have the bigger your wounds will be (I haven’t tested this hypothesis).

But, in the end, I prefer being warm at night than shaving 10 seconds off my time…

One of the funniest part of the swim season used to be shaving down before the big meet…classic…I recall the first time I felt like superman swimming…

We did it at Duke in the early 80′s. All the men would clip and shave down for the championship meet as a team in the locker room shower. First dive into the pool was an incredible feeling – like we’d grown porpoise skin! Whether it was our new aquatic mammalian exterior, or just the sheer excitement of it all, times dropped and personal bests were achieved.

Yes, it is right that hair free body is necessary and improve the performance in sports. Mostly sports players removes unwanted hairs through laser treatment or waxing, but laser treatment is very much effective to remove the hairs permanently.

Wasn’t aware that hair free body can help you in sports, don’t really understand this theory.
