Many women go to the gym simply to look better.
It’s very common for women to tell their trainer in their initial interview that they are there to get a flatter tummy, a tighter butt, a more toned bosom, or sexier, more beautiful-looking legs.
Many women, and plenty of men as well, have a lot of misconceptions about the exercises that are important for shaping and toning your body, as well as what must be done in order to get in optimum physical shape.
As a way of correcting these misconceptions that lead so many people to make mistakes, we’d like to share some effective beauty tricks for women who hit the gym:
1-Forget the myth that if you do weights, you’ll get very bulked up. Normally, women’s weight training is done in a circuit with a high number of reps, which has a positive effect on muscle endurance and tones the body. Perhaps training like a weightlifter does will put more muscle mass on you, but if this doesn’t apply to you, don’t worry about it. Also, women don’t have the high levels of testosterone required for heavy bodybuilding.
2-Work all the muscles in your body. Women tend to become obsessed with getting a nicer butt, prettier legs, flatter abs, etc., so they end up doing the same exercises every day. I recommend comprehensive exercises like squats and lunges, which burn a lot more calories. In addition to elevating your metabolism, they are more effective at shaping your legs and glutes. Alternate squats and lunges with exercises that work your upper body.
3-Make an effort with every exercise you do. There is a tendency to simply check each exercise off our to-do list and end our workout session without even really working out at all. Make an effort, doing as many reps as you can do without overexerting or straining yourself. Often, without realizing it, we plan to do 20 reps with one weight when we could have done much more.
4-Choose a weight for each weightlifting exercise that is appropriate for the muscle you’re working. Sometimes we use the same weight on every machine. This is a serious mistake, since each muscle has a different level of strength.
5-Do plenty of cardio work. It will cause you to burn calories, which is one of the best allies in losing weight.
Remember that in order to achieve lasting results in the way of esthetics, you must be patient and very consistent in your training.
Meanwhile, look in the mirror and go by how you feel. It’s possible that the part of your body you want to shape the most will be the last to go away. Normally, women accumulate fat around their hip area, while men accumulate it in the abdomen. This is something that happens very gradually over time, so it won’t go away overnight. Take heart and don’t give up – with patience and consistency, it will go away eventually.
