Extended Explanation
Standing on the floor, extend arms above your head with hands together, that must be crossed and with fingers twined. Stretch arms up and slightly to the back.  Hold this position for a few seconds.

Basic Muscles Explanation
The wide dorsal is a long muscle that covers the sides of the back.  The round major is a small muscle located alongside the superior part of the wide dorsal. In the scapular zone, the rhomboid and the middle zone of the trapezius are involved. The trapezius is a diamond-shaped long muscle that descends from the neck to the middle back.  In its middle zone, the trapezius contracts also, and is located in the middle of the back, alongside the spine.  The rhomboid is located hidden under the trapezius in the middle part of the back.

Muscles & Joint Actions
In back stretches, arms move away from the body, either upwards or to the front to stretch the scapulas from the shoulders and stretch all the dorsal muscular group.  The lower back or lumbar stretch is done by joining the superior zone of our body with the inferior or viceversa.

Sport Uses
The muscles involved in back (spine) stretches are beneficial to the majority of sports like rowing in all its variations and gymnastics with machines. We must also include these movements in sports like rugby, judo or swimming. In relation to other sports that emphasize the involvement of spine muscles in some of their technical movements we can mention  archery, bounces in basketball and raquet sports.
