Extended Explanation

Stand in the middle of pulleys that are facing each other,  separate and extend  arms in a cross position.  Place individual rings on each of the high pulleys, place hand in supination (palms facing up).  Flex elbows reaching head with hands.

Basic Muscles Explanation

The biceps brachii,  commonly known as the two-headed muscle, is connected to two joints and intervenes in the shoulder and elbow movements. The  brachialis muscle is located under the biceps near the elbow and  participates primarily in the elbow flex.  Due to its range of action this muscle can be as strong as the biceps brachii. The brachioradialis muscle creates the rounded edges of the forearm, and it goes from the elbow to the thumb.

Muscles & Joint Actions

When the elbow flexors contract, the forearm gets near the superior part of the arm, which should stay in its place during the exercise.  The Brachialis biceps has three main functions: forearm flex, hand and wrist rotation and stabilizing the shoulder.  The brachialis participates mainly in the forearm flex.  The brachioradialis acts as a supinator when the hand is pronated or neutral.

Sport Uses

Although the triceps commonly plays a more important role in the mayority of sports, the biceps has to be strong to balance the development of the triceps and avoid having elbow problems. The muscles that are involved in this exercise are used mainly in  pulling actions as in escalade, also to elevate body in gymnastic machines like the horizontal bar and beam, rings and parallels.  Boxers and rugby players need this action to grab, pin down or overthrow an opponent.  In martial arts it is used to place the opponent in the knock down position.  Elbow flexing is used in sports like basketball, when bringing the ball to the body to make  a shot. This accion is also seen when smashes are used in tennis and the golf swing.  Other actions include taking the ball to the chest like in basketball.
